Ford's sales plunge to nearly half of 1919's numbers, market share falls to just 22 percent. Prices are slashed by an average of $150 dollars off each Model T. A huge inventory of cars prompts exstension of Christmas shutdown until February 1921. Widespread rumors forecast Ford's financial demise. A new payment system that requires dealers to pay for cars upon receipt improves cash flow. Winter ushers in a mild recession, Despite a down year for Ford, coupe sales surged from around 11,000 cars in 1919 to over 60,000 in 1920. Truck chassis sales were also on the rise, reaching 135,000, nearly doubling the amount sold the pior year.
