Welcome to the American Cars.

1955
The 1955 Fords were totally redesigned, inside and out, from the 1954 version. The bodies were longer, lower and wider. Even though the 1955 models used the same backlighted speedometer, first introduced in 1954, the rest of the instrument panel was new. A new Fairlane series replaced the Crestline as the top trim level. The contemporary interest in horsepower and speed was reflected in two new, larger overhead valve V-8 engines. Perhaps some of the most exciting news was the introduction of the all new 1955 two-passenger Thunderbird or T-bird as it is often referred to. The announced base price for the new car was $2,695.00. The Crown Victoria adopts a " Basket Handle" chrome roofline. The Ford model year car out-put is at its highest since 1923, Ford sold more wagon than Chevrolet, yet still trails Chevrolet by a quarter million cars. The Ford Motor Company earns a record profit of $437 million dollars.
