Henry Ford was determined to build cars so much so that it took not three cars to build a company but the building of three car companies before he finally got it right. On this page is a few of the cars he built before he founded the Ford Motor Company. After Henry and Clara got married the young inventor got busy building his first car the Quadricycle.

1901 Ford racer "Sweepstakes"
This Car was built between the time of The Detroit Automobile Company and the Henry Ford Company
The "race that changed the world" occurred on October 10, 1901, when Henry Ford
defeated Alexander Winton, the most accomplished automobile builder/racer of the
era, in a 10-lap race at the Detroit Driving Club in Grosse Pointe, Michigan.
The sweepstakes is currently on display at The Henry Ford museum. Dearborn, MI.
