Production of the 1956 Fords started Sept, 6. 1955, and the 1956 Ford Thunderbird started production on Oct, 17, 1955. The Parklane station wagon was a deluxe Fairlane trim level two door Ranch Wagon. The Crown Victoria Skyliner featured a plexiglass tinted transparent forward roof, it would be the last year for this type construction. The Sunliner was a two door convertible. The new Y-block Thunderbird V-8 came with double twin-jet carburation, integrated automatic choke, dual exhaust. Turbo-wedge-shaped combustion chambers and automatic Power Pilot. A 12 volt electrical system and 18-mm anti-fouling spark plugs were adopted this season. Model year sales peaked at 1,392,847 units. Calendar year production hit 1,373,542 vehicles ( Both figures include Thunderbird sales and production). Ford stock goes on sale, starting with 10.2 million shares from the Ford Foundation. Ford joins the Automobile Manufacturers Association and Henry Ford II is elected President. Although Ford builds 1.4 million cars Chevrolet has a better year by selling 1.56 million cars. Motor Trend Magazine names the entire Ford line-up "Car of the Year". New Lincoln aims at the heart of Luxury field again, the Continental idea is once again reborn in the Mark II hardtop. New for 1956 is a chrome grill now available on a F-100 Ford truck. This option has not been available since the second world war.
