
Kline Motor Car Corp.
1907-1923
Kline Kar was the creation of James A. Kline (1974-1944) born in Siddonsburg, PA and later moving to Harrisburg where he had a bicycle dealership, around 1899 he purchased a steam Locomobile. After his purchase he devises all sorts of improvements to the car and he is smitten by what would become his life long passion with the Automobile. In 1905 Kline joins the partnership that is building the York Automobile later known as the Pullman. By 1907 Kline has the desire to be the boss of own automobile company so he leaves the York-Pullman firm and forms B.C.K. Motor Company, by 1909 the Kline Kar is on the market. In 1911 a Richmond business group approach's Kline to get him to move his company to Virginia, he agrees.
By 1913 the Kline Motor Car Corp. is in its $100,000.00 dollar new home on Boulevard. The new factory covered 15 acres. In 1918 Kline Kar Co. announced that "Patriotism before Profit" with the outbreak of war Kline turns his factory over to war time production and moved his automobile production to a smaller multifloor factory on Seventh and Carey Streets, never to return to the Boulevard factory. In 1923 the Last Kline Kar is produced, James Kline remains a fixture in the business community serving as President of a auto finance company and managing director of the Automobile Club of Virginia, the local affiliate of the American Automobile Association. James Kline died in 1944 at the age of 69 in Richmond, VA. The following photo's were contributed in part by Leonard Shepherd.
