23rd Series

Packard obtained serveral choice military contracts on the verge of  war's outbreak in Korea. Model year sales peaked at 106,040 cars. Calendar year production was 72,138 units giving Packard the 16th industry rating. A new R-11 type overdrive was used on 23rd series cars and was said to provide three extra miles of driving on each gallon of gasoline. On March 2, 1950 Packard adopted 14mm spark plugs for its straight eight engines. This model year Packard would be nearly identical as the 1949 Golden Anniversy Packard's thus the series remaining the same. This would be the last year for what many have names the bath-tub series of  Packard's. An all new Packard would arrrive for 1951.
