    Automotive History Online

1958

Model year sales continued to slide with only 44,759 units sold. The Packard portion of the Studebaker-Packard Corp ceased production of automobiles this year. This would be the last year Studebaker builds full size automobiles. The Custom model from 1957 has been replaced by the Marshal model. A special Scotsman two-door sedan with no rear seat was produced, it was called the utility sedan, no production numbers exist for it. First for Studebaker as it was for all American automakers, four headlights were now legal for highway use. Studebaker however seemed to decide at the last minute to take advantage of this new design feature because all of there four headlight equipped automobile appeared to have the headlights tacked on at the last minute.  Something that may have had a factor in there poor sales.
