1964
In 1964 the Lark name is de-emphasized and was actually being used in connection with the early Challenger and Commander models. Several new names and a squared up design were the major changes for 1964. The Challenger, which was only sold domestically, replaced the 1963 Standard line. The Challenger had no side molding and single headlamps, dual were optional. Challenger sedans had the Lark emblems on the upper rear quarter panels. The Commander replaced the 1963 Regal line. The Commander had narrow side moldings and single headlamps, duals were optional. Commander sedans had circled "S" emblems on the upper rear quarter panels. The 1964 Daytona line was expanded to include a four door sedan. The Daytona and Cruiser had wide side molding and dual headlamps. The Cruiser had very wide moldings across the back deck lid. Taxi and heavy-duty models were similar to Challengers in exterior trim. The Grand had a new smooth deck lid and slightly restyled imitation side grills. All models except the Challenger, taxi and heavy-duty had a standard circle "S" hood ornament. 1964 would be a year of a lot of last's, this is the last year for Avanti, the Champ pick-ups, Grand Turismo Hawks, and Convertibles and Studebaker engines, as well as the building of cars in South Bend Indiana.
